As a child psychologist, I’ve put together 15 essential tips and tricks for successful parenting. Each one is grounded in science and practical to implement. Let’s dive in!

1. Foster a Strong Bond

Form a secure attachment with your child from the very beginning. This emotional bond is crucial for their self-esteem and emotional development. To do so be present with your child, often say about yours love, give your child a good example.

Children learn by observing adults. Show them your best behavior and they’re likely to follow suit.
Being a role model also means to show your weakneses, No one is perfect, and this is ok.
Let them see authentic you, your succeses and your hard days. Show them how to deal with emotions and different kind of situations.

3. Practice Effective Communication

Master the art of active listening. When your child talks, show interest and engage with them. This makes them feel valued and heard.
Often ask them questions and talk about everyday things.

4. Encourage Independence

Let your child make age-appropriate decisions. This encourages independence and critical thinking skills.

Consistency and bondries are often one of the hardest things in parenthood – many parents have dhilema: how to set boundries and in the same time don’t use force, scream or punishments. It is doable, however often requiers deep inner work.

Define clear boundaries for your child’s behavior. They need to know what’s acceptable and what’s not.
As I wrote above: this is important to have boundries, and it’s also important to remeber that kids will want to cross them.
Finding the way to deal with this hard moments is crucial to your bond.

Help your child understand and express their emotions. This nurtures emotional intelligence and mental health.
Emotional intelligence is often something that our own parents didn’t teach us.  If you don’t know how to deal with your own emotions it can be difficult to guide your child throught it. For many parents this realisation is a begining of their own inner process.

8. Ensure Quality Sleep

Remember, restful sleep is integral for a child’s healthy development. Good quality sleep is important for emotions, development, learning capabilities and so many more.
